About Us

Community Sector Trading is delivered by the Development Trusts Association (DTA) and funded by ACEVO and CapacityBuilders.

Development Trusts Association

The DTA is a leading network of community enterprise and cohesion practitioners. Development trusts are community organisations using self-help, enterprise, and asset ownership, to find local solutions and transform their community for good. The DTA supports development trusts with creating economic, environmental and social value in their communities. We also influence government and others at national and local level, to build support and investment for our movement to establish a successful development trust in every community.

The Pool – the DTA’s Consultancy Service

The Development Trusts Association has a very special asset within its staff, members and wider contacts – a wealth of grassroots expertise and knowledge in community cohesion, regeneration and cultivating local enterprise. We have developed a unique form of consultancy that taps into this fabulous resource of collective experience in the community sector. Supported by an experienced multi-talented advisory group, the Pool offers an uncompromising quality of advice and support in the holistic regeneration of communities.

The Pool can draw upon an extensive network of qualified associates who specialise in community cohesion. Our client list includes several NDC programmes and other regeneration agencies, as well as local authorities across the country, regional development agencies and central government. Our experience includes managing the Advancing Assets programme for CLG, involving support to over 100 local authority areas over four years to develop fair and accountable frameworks for asset transfer from local government to local communities. The Pool also leads the CREATE Consortium’s work funded by Hadley Trust on proposals for a Community Allowance to help residents undertake community work without losing their benefits.
